Ruby Leeann Hyndman (nee Godlien)

-Mother mentioned in James Smith section oof the Crandall Chronicles-

November 5, 1944 - December 28, 2012

Surrounded by her family, Ruby Leeann Hyndman passed peacefully into her final rest at Birch Lodge in the early morning hours of Dec. 28, 2012.

She will be lovingly missed by her husband Garnet, of 47 years, children Seanna Hyndman (Ian Humphries), Kevin (Holly) & Kimberly (Brent) Moffat, grandchildren Shae & Cead Humphries, Orianna & Teegan Hyndman & Jordan, Joby & Kennedy Moffat, brother Bruce (Angie) Godlien & sister Maureen (Earl) Milne. Also several nieces and nephews.

Leeann was born Nov. 5, 1944 to Melvin & Ruby (Smith) Godlien at Kelliher, SK. In 1951, the family moved to the farm at Pope, MB and Leeann took her schooling at Oakner, finishing her Grade 12 at Hamiota. During the early 50's, Leeann contracted polio.

In 1965, Leeann married Garnet Hyndman of McConnell. With Garnet taking his teacher training in Brandon, Leeann worked at Frank Lawson & Sons and also at the Brandon General Hospital. The home farm became the centre of their lives with a two year sojourn in the North when Garnet was teaching at Beren's River. Leeann thoroughly enjoyed this adventure.

Leeann was a contented farm wife. She loved the land and the animals, especially horses and her milk cows. She took pleasure in seeing things grow and produced an abundance in her gardens which were usually started from seed in her small greenhouse.

Family was Leeann's priority. She followed all the children's activities... hockey, ball, figure skating and qynmastics. As a stay-at-home Mom, the kids fondly remember being welcomed home after school to the smell of freshly baked bread.

Leeann was immensely proud of her seven grandchildren. Although she was unable to actively participate in their lives, through their visits she kept abreast of their school progress, sports and other interests. Their kisses, hugs and "I love you's" were her treasures.

Leann was a strong community supporter of the Cardale Church and rink. As the children grew older, Leeann worked as manager and postmistress at the Cardale Co-op for five years.

In 1991, Leeann was diagnosed with MS. From then on her life changed as she tried to maintain mobility. When her condition deteriorated, she and Garnet moved to Hamiota. With the help of Home Care, she was able to live at home until August 2008 when she moved to Birch Lodge, where she resided for 4 1/2 years.

In spite of her physical difficulties, Leeann showed us how to live with a disability and be cheerful and never complaining. So many people have remarked about her special smile and that has always been so special to us.

A private celebration of Leeann's life and interment will be held at a later date.

For those so desiring, memorial donations can be made in Leeann's memory to: MS Society of Can (Westman Chapter) Unit 5 457 9th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 4A9 or Birch Lodge Personal Care Home, Hamiota, MB ROM OTO.
