George Padfield

April 15, 1882 - August 31, 1955


A resident of the Crandall district for nearly five decades died at his home in Crandall, following an illness on Wednesday, August 31. He was in his 74th year.

George Padfield was born at Gorrie, Ont. and in 1911 his marriage to Gertrude Shier took place. The couple farmed north of Decker for a number of years and later moved to Crandall where Mr. Padfield did blacksmith work.

The funeral was held on Friday with the service being conducted in the United church by Rev. J. Maxwell and was attended by a large number of neighbours and friends and the many floral tributes carried their silent message of sympathy. Burial was made in Crandall cemetery, the palbearers being H.B.Doupe, W. Phillips, W. Musgrove, J. Hazelwood, Wm. Hyndman, C.W. Lewis.

He is survived by his wife, one son, William, and five daughters: Mrs. H. Wheeler, Winnipeg Beach; Mrs. Ed. Lewis, Teulon; Mrs. G. Higgins, Decker; Mrs. E. Wilson, Trenton, Ont. and Aleta, Winnipeg. There are also three sisters: Mrs. Ed. Lints, Decker; Mrs. M. Playford, Dauphin and Miss J. Padfield, Shoal Lake. A son, George, gave his life in the 1939-45 war. There are 15 grandchildren.
