Wascana Lake and the park that
surrounds it provides Reginans with
a natural gateway, an escape from the hustle
and bustle of busy city life. It may mean
a thousand different things to a thousand
different people, but there remains one
constant - the "mighty" Wascana Lake as
locals love to call it, makes memories.
During the summer Wascana Park's lush green
surroundings are filled with people jogging,
cycling, rollerblading, or quietly walking along the
pathways and promenades that follow its shorelines.
Like you are!
For those people searching for a family outing,
numerous picnic sites can be found adjacent to the lake
and on Willow Island. Children can spend afternoons
at the Candy Cane Park or Wascana Park play areas.
Every July 1st Wascana Centre fills with folks ready to view
the fireworks and celebrate Canada's birthday. The mighty
Wascana, the home of the Regina Rowing and the Wascana Racing
Canoe Clubs is the popular venue for canoeing, sailing, and kayaking.
There have even been water ski
wakeboard demonstrations
and competitions! Since the 1990's
it has also featured spectacular Dragon
Boat Racing. The mighty Wascana was the
site of the 2005 Canada Summer Games
canoeing and rowing competitions, and it will
no doubt become one of North America's
favourite competion venues.
