Moose Jaw and Area Trans Canada Trail
The Moose Jaw and area has been a busy crossroads for centuries. Natives used the Moose Jaw River Valley for thousands of years for food and shelter. The Cree called the area Wakamow, or river of turns. The abundance of wildlife, wood and shelter drew not only the Cree, but trappers, fur traders and explorers. The Palliser Expedition rested in this area while doing the first real mapping and surveying of Western Canada. The Winnipeg to Medicine Hat Red River Cart trail ran right through Moose Jaw. Our portion of the Trans Canada Trail is located on, or close to this trail. Some sections of the original trail can still be seen today.
Please enjoy and respect this scenic and historic part of our local and national history.
