This list of 282 species has been published by the members of the Weyburn Nature Society. While all of the birds listed have been sighted, some are hypothetical or not documented. The check list is patterned after the Field Check List of Saskatchewan Birds as compiled and published in 1990.

Abbreviations:

C - Common: can be observed consistently in preferred habitat

W - Wanderer: species not typically found in locality

UC - Uncommon: not consistently observed in preferred habitat

WV - Winter Visitor: species can be observed during winter months

CB - Confirmed Breeding: breeding proved by regular and long-standing observations of nests, eggs and nestlings

IS - Introduced Species: species not native to Canada

SB - Suspected Breeding: breeding suspected but not proven

HY - Hypothetical: species not expected to be observed; reported but not documented

M - Migrant: can be observed during migration periods

R - Rare: not observed more often than once in five years
