George Kerr Douglas

1885 - November 16, 1946

The news that George Kerr Douglas had passed away very suddenly on Saturday morning, November 16th, came as, a great shock to all in the district, more so because of the fact that he had driven the school van on friday, and had made a trip to Elkhorn by car the same day. He had not complained of his health, and on Saturday morning he went about his duties in the usual manner, and th fact this (?) was rapidly nearing the end of his earthly life, was possibly furthest from the minds of his wife and son, as they watched him prepare to leave the house. But death came, without a farewell, and the voice was stilled forever. He was aged 60 years, 11 months and 11 days.

George was born at Crandall, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Douglas, and has lived there all his life. As a farmer in the Palmerston district, he commanded the greatest respect, and was a honest and Christian gentleman, who devoted his life to the best interests to the better things in life and to the church in his community. He also served faithfully on the Municipal school board for a number of years. His death has removed a sincere friend an neighbour, and has left a vacant chair in a home in which he was the beloved head.

In 1910 the marriage of Margaret Ann Clark, of Inverkeith Kurress, Scotland to Geo.K. Douglas, took place in Montana, U.S.A. Mrs. Douglas and two daughters, Mrs. L. Mansell, Sols????, and Mrs. N. Porter at home, and three sons,Wilfred, Vernon, B.C., Richard, of Harding, and James and Arnold at home, and sisters, Mrs. L. Thompson, Moose Jaw, and a brother, Gordon Vernon, survive.

He was also a member of the Miniota Masonic lodge and the brethren performed the farewell rites of the Craft at the graveside, following the committal sentences of the United church pronounced by Rev. J.M. Wilson, following the largely attended service in the Crandall church. Burial was made in Crandall cemetery. The casket, with many floral tributes, was laid to rest by six Brother Masons: W.H.P. Wallace, Wm. Coburn, D.C. Douglas, H.M. Brisbin, G.L. Dibblee, Wal. Hyndman. The honourary pallbearers S. Bacon, E. Rutledge, H. Bray, J. Curtis, E. Douglas, J. Stewart.
