Edwin Mark

1860 -January 25, 1943

A well respected pioneer of the Crandall district passed away at his home in Crandall on Monday January 25th, following an extended illness, in the person of Edwin Mark in his 83rd year.

A native of Seagrave, Ont., Mr. Mark was married to Martha Moon at Clifford, Ont., in 1881, and a year later the couple came west to Carlingville and took up a homestead two miles north of Crandall. Mrs. Mark died in 1929.

During the earlier days Mr. and Mrs. Mark devoted their lives to the service of the community and were very active in all the undertakings that centred around church and community life. Mr. Mark was a member of the Methodist church and later joined in with the congregation of the United church of Crandall and the congregation of Crandall church honoured him on many occasions by placing him in responsible positions. He also took a keen interest in the young people and for a long time was superintendent of the Sunday school. Mr. Mark was truly a Cltristian gentleman, not by profession alone, but he lived up to what he firmly believed in and the community has suffered a great loss by his death. Man is allowed to live on this earTh for a period of years unknown to all. We all are left to mould our lives according to our own designs. Some waste the precious time given and pass on, leaving nothing for them to be remembered by, whilst others recognize their sacred mission in life and expend their efforts to the service of mankind. These are not quickly forgotten and their work carries on in the lives that have been influenced by these men and women.

Mr. Mark was also identified in public life of the community and served as a Councillor for his Ward. He was also a member of the school Board and was the Chairman for a great many years and up to the time of his death.

In 1932 Mr.Mark was married to Mrs. A.T. Lewis in Crandall, who survives him as also a daughter, Mrs. Geo Todd, Melfort and three sons, Phillip and Arnold of Winnipeg and Earl who resides on the home farm.

The funeral was held on Wednesday afternoon from Crandall church, burial being in Crandall cemetery. Rev. W. Bill conducted the services.
