Charles William Lewis
July 17, 1920 - October 22, 2006
With great sadness the family announces the passing of
Charles William Lewis, Oct. 22, 2006 at the Hamiota District Health
Centre.
Predeceased by his parents Sid and Cora,
sister Edith (Bernard) Grafton, brothers Irvine (Esther) and Jim,
and nephew Reg Lewis, he leaves to mourn his loving wife Janie,
son Sid (Terry), grandsons Nathan (Margie), Adam, and Patrick.
Also bereaved are brothers Rod (Bernice), Jack (Ruth) and several
nieces, nephews, brother and sister-in-laws. Charlie was born in
the R.M. of Ochre River on July 17, 1920. He moved with his parents
to the farm in the Crandall district where he attended school. As a
young man he served with the army overseas during WW II. While in
Scotland he married Jane Barrie Thom, of Mauchline, Ayrshire on
March 26, 1945. After the war they settled in the R.M. of Hamiota where
they resided until retirement in town in 1993. Charlie was a lifetime
member of the Agricultural society and devoted many yearS as a director
for the heavy horse membership. He also served as an officer for the
Hamiota Seniors Club for carpet ball and floor shuffle. Charlie was also
a proud member of the Hamiota Legion.
He enjoyed sharing his love for family
and his horses with others. He will be greatly missed. Funeral
services were held Oct. 26, 2006 at the Hamiota United Church with
Barbara Rediker officiating. Interment followed in Crandall cemetery.
Campbell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. If so desired,
donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society or the charity of
your choice, in Charlie's memory.
